A popular Japanese food restaurant operated by a fish monger, overlooking the sea.

Maizuru is a fierce battlefield when it comes to fish markets. [Totogen East Maizuru Branch] was opened in 2019, sister to Totogen’s West-Maizuru Restaurant (opened 2015), a popular Japanese restaurant operated by the fresh fish retailer [Marufuji Foods]. The East branch’s location faces Maizuru Port and overlooks the calm sea through large windows. There is a hall-type space that can also accommodate up to 80 people. The main feature here is the seafood directly from the Maizuru fishing port, which is carefully selected by Mr. Takashi Yuzawa, who is also a fish broker. The very best seafood from the day’s catch are delivered to the kitchen, where you can enjoy dishes that make you feel the four seasons of Maizuru’s seaside, such as rock oysters in the summer, shore plovers in the spring and summer, and yellowtail in the winter. There is a wide range of dishes, from casual seafood bowls, sashimi, and sushi, to multi-dish courses. If you want Maizuru’s fish at its freshest, stop by Totogen.

Part of the charm of eating fresh seafood is having a view of where it came from. At Totogen’s east-Maizuru restaurant, you can do just that. The harbor with its ferries, small boats, and even historic warships, are viewable from the restaurant. The chefs of both the east and west Totogen restaurants believe that "A chef couldn’t be happier, being able to use the best fish every day,” but the specialty dishes are original and specific to each restaurant. This is where the chef's sensibility shines, and you will notice it in the dishes. I would like many people to taste the fresh fish that Maizuru is proud of.
