Visiting Ujo Soan during Japan's rainy season? Consider yourself lucky! This sprawling world of gardens and beautifully designed villas was specifically named for its ability to shine when the sun isn't. The tranquil setting, just a minute's walk from Yuhigaura's beaches (some of the best sunsets in Japan), provides the perfect atmosphere for letting everything wash away. Among the bamboo forest paths cross trickling streams, you will have your choice from six separate Japanese-Western style villas. Each house is private, with natural hot springs. The Soke Suite, is 108㎡ and has the architecture of a traditional farmhouse with the comforts of a luxury hotel. The cuisine, of course, matches the excellence of the rest of the establishment.

More than six different natural hot springs, sea views, mountain views, Japanese=modern decor with designer kimono installations, and a heritage of over 150 years with a focus on cuisine, Sumihei is a destination in and of itself. Even the “standard” rooms (central picture) are anything but standard, but for those who want an even more luxurious experience, there are large villa-type suites with private hot spring baths in the rooms. Of course visitors will want to tour around the variety of beautifully designed onsen baths Sumihei has on their expansive property. The facility also has a library with island-like lounge chairs (pictured left), with complementary snacks and drinks (including local craft beer). One of this location’s main draws is the cuisine, as they have their roots in seafood cuisine, and naturally so as this area has some of the most sought after seafood in Japan.
