The finest seafood dishes with fish caught right here in Ine Bay
The fishing village of Ine is one of Japan's three major fishing spots, along with Himi City in Toyama Prefecture, and the Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. The yellowtail here is a seasonal fish that grows to be more than 10 kg. The yellowtail is rooted deep in the Tango region, known as a lucky fish used for auspicious occasions and family gatherings. This is where the yellowtail shabu-shabu style dish originates and was made popular.
Funaya Shokudo, is run by a long-established local inn/restaurant with a slew of experience cooking local cuisine. The restaurant itself is located on the 2nd floor of Ine Town Tourism Association, right in front of Ine Bay, so you can eat seasonal fish while looking out over the historic boat houses. Since opening in April 2018, it has become a popular spot for domestic and overseas tourists who want to try Ine’s hometown gourmet food.
The town of Ine is a treasure trove of delicious ingredients. Not only seafood, but vegetables and rice are also excellent in this area. However, this is a small town with few restaurants, and before Funaya Shokudo opened, there was no place open for breakfast. The restaurant opens at 8am. Try the seasonal fish while watching the sparkling sea and the boat houses.
