Eat fresh fish caught in Ine Bay. Try the sashimi, seafood bowl, or arani dish.

The restaurant takes it’s name from the "funaya" which are boat houses with a first floor that’s directly connected to the sea used for docking boats. Restaurant Funaya is located at Funaya no Sato Roadside Station which overlooks the Japan Heritage Ine boat house town. Mr. Hideki Nitta, the manager, is a fish specialist born in a fisherman's house and who served for a long time on the fishery cooperative. He goes to the fishing port every morning to purchase fish and learn about the fishing conditions. The sashimi, seafood bowl packed fish, as well as the arani are cooked according to local tastes and are fresh every day. There are seasonal delicacies such as yellowtail sashimi caught in Ine Bay and a shabu-shabu course in winter, rock oysters raised in Ine Bay for over 3 years between May and August. At the shop on the 1st floor, local specialties such as "heshiko", a fish fermented in rice bran, and overnight dried fish are sold. Don't forget to bring a cooler!

I'm was born in Ine and was raised in a fisherman's house. I worked for a local fishery cooperative for about 20 years after graduating from high school. At that time, I saw fish brought into the harbor every morning, so it has become second nature for me to understand the fishing conditions and quality of all the fish. I still go to the port at 6 o'clock every morning. If there is a delicious seasonal fish, I will buy it. If not, I will not buy it. It is a daily routine, and a good chance to share information while drinking coffee with fellow inns, restaurants and chefs. Even the same type of fish, when caught during different seasons, has a different taste. I make sure to taste them daily.
